Every dry dock offers chances to maintain, upgrade and\u00a0<a title=\"Retrofit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lagersmit.com\/retrofit\/\" data-udi=\"umb:\/\/document\/2f1d88ca265a45d39ecaa8e7decdc32e\">retrofit<\/a>\u00a0the essential parts on your vessel. The advantages of our\u00a0<a title=\"Supreme Ventus\u00ae\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lagersmit.com\/products\/supreme-ventus\/\" data-udi=\"umb:\/\/document\/94621155f10e45ce8b8c892a28e6453a\">Supreme Ventus\u00ae<\/a>\u00a0air-type system were clear for\u00a0<a title=\"Vertom Bereederung\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lagersmit.com\/references\/vertom-bereederung\/\" data-udi=\"umb:\/\/document\/c1d6606762f7485bb4eca537f2f434d9\">Vertom Bereederung<\/a>, but the installation was challenging. An extraordinary project can sometimes be solved with a creative and fairly simple solution. Read along to discover how the m\/v Patron was retrofitted to a Supreme Ventus\u00ae air-type seal with piping outside the stern tube.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mainheading product-heading\">ULTIMATE CHALLENGE<\/h2>\n<p>Nowadays, international shipping companies can&#8217;t avoid the\u00a0<a title=\"Vessel General Permit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lagersmit.com\/vessel-general-permit\/\" data-udi=\"umb:\/\/document\/512e8162b9454bad855b8234815bfcf3\">VGP\/VIDA regulations<\/a>. Each and every vessel has to be in compliance and this also includes the m\/v Patron of Vertom Bereederung. Vertom wanted to avoid the use of expensive bio-oils and can keep sailing with mineral oils. That&#8217;s why they chose Lagersmit\u2019s reliable Supreme Ventus\u00ae air-type system. It guarantees zero emissions of oil and 24\/7 condition monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>The shaft wasn\u2019t pulled and we noticed that the necessary piping work for the Supreme Ventus wasn\u2019t available. We collaborated with the team of Vertom and came up with a smart and creative solution: to install the piping outside the stern tube.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mainheading product-heading\">PREPARATION<\/h2>\n<p>Based on our experience with previous installations, we determined the necessary parts and came to technical drawings for the outside piping. The correct estimation of pipes versus the center line of the shaft was the most important. The following technical drawings contributed to the plan of approach:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Connection view of the inside with outside and pipe cover<\/li>\n<li>Transfer from the end plate to the seal box side<\/li>\n<li>Outside double flange connection<\/li>\n<li>Inside double flange connection and fixing points\/angles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The whole project was executed under\u00a0<a title=\"Type &amp; design goedkeuring\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lagersmit.com\/type-and-design-approvals\/\" data-udi=\"umb:\/\/document\/2ba1fdbea51c4b9489c3dea806106d80\">class approval<\/a>\u00a0and designed for service friendly maintenance.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mainheading product-heading\">GETTING THE JOB DONE<\/h2>\n<p>To ensure the successful completion of a retrofit job, it is extremely important to team-up with the specialists of the shipyard.
